I chose to blog about the fact that I think it’s unfair at times that society tells us we have to have a college education to do well in life. I personally don’t think college is for everyone and I may be one of those people who might not ever finish. I find myself sitting here and not having any clue what to major in. I have been in college for 4 years and have all these random classes under my belt and all I know is that I want to work in a hospital. Even after I thought I figured out what program I wanted to be a part of here at ICC I can’t even start in the fall because I missed the deadline for the program. I think I can do certain jobs just as good as people with educations. I think that some people with educations can turn out being s lazy worker versus someone who doesn’t have a degree. I hate how everyone tells me that I should go to college and get a degree because it’s the right thing to do this day and age. It might take me ten more years to figure out my true calling, and in the mean time it’s hard to find a good job because people want to find people that have experience. How am I supposed to get experience if no one ever lets me start somewhere to get the experience I need to make it. Basically I start at square one every semester and it’s very frustrating. I just wish someone would tell me what to do, but then even if they did I probably wouldn’t want to do what they say.

say no to soda
What I wanted to write about for my last paper was soda and basically why we shouldn’t drink it. I think that soda is one of the most addictive things out there and people rely on it to get them going and to keep them going throughout the day. In fact those who are consuming one regular soda a day are taking in about 91,000 calories a year which equals about 300 Big Macs or 182 large fries. I am not okay with eating the equivalent of that many Big Macs that goes straight to the behind. The average American drinks 54 gallons of soda a year and that is a huge amount if you think about it. Not to mention that soda has lots of acid in it that can tear up our stomachs and start to break down our teeth enamel. I want my audience to be just people in general or those who struggle with giving soda up. However I think that people know soda is bad for them they just don’t really know how bad it can affect you over time. I don’t want to write the paper and just say don’t drink soda because it’s bad for you but I want to give good solid facts that will really help my readers think about what soda is doing to their bodies and maybe it is time to give it up. I might even decide to make my audience more towards parents and why they shouldn’t let their kids have soda because it affects them even more than adults because of all the sugar and caffeine. Also because kids are growing constantly and need to learn how to take care of their teeth it would be good for them to stay away from soda.

Gunsssss
I’m going to start off by saying that I don’t like guns and I don’t think it’s a good idea for anyone to be able to carry a weapon around just because they feel they have the right to. Other than those who need guns such as police officers and those who fight for this country I feel that for safety reasons people don’t need to carry them. I know that the second amendment states we have the right to bear arms, but if people were pulling guns on people when things got out of control the murder rate would rise. I realize that if someone wants a gun then they are going to get one and use it how they want, but it’s nice to know that it’s not allowed for average people on the street to be packing heat. Guns are hobbies for some and for those that hunt it’s a lifestyle. I have come across a lot of people in my life that know way to much about guns and how they work and it’s so easy to use one. I feel like having guns in a house is a scary thing especially if there are children involved. I know that people put them away but kids get curious and want to know how things work. In order to get a gun in Illinois you have to have a FOID card and go through a process to get a gun which makes me feel better. I also know that they do check up on people who carry guns in Illinois however in other states such as Montana your allowed to just have a gun with you wherever you go. I would feel uneasy if the law ever got passed here in Illinois and I hope that it doesn’t come to that. I know it’s a very controversial topic and many people have different opinions on it.

running injuries
I recently purchased a magazine from Barnes and Noble called “Runners” and in the magazine there is a article called “The Big 7 Body Break Downs” which explains the 7 leading running injuries. The number one leading injury in running is called “runners knee” which I can defiantly say I suffer from. The real name for it is Pattelofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) it’s when the runner experiences irritation of the cartilage on the underside of the patella (knee cap). About forty percent of runners suffer from knee injuries and 13% of runners suffered from knee injuries in the last year according to a runnersworld.com poll. I know from experience that this is very painful and with each stride it feels like someone is hitting you in the knee with a baseball bat. The weird thing is no matter how expensive of running shoe I have on I feel like it makes it worse. The article states that running uphill puts less pressure on your knee so while training chose routes with inclines, but those are also really hard and no one wants to run hills all day. It’s not an injury that keeps a runner from continuing to train they just have to take more breaks and run shorter runs. If you are feeling pain all day while just walking you should see a doctor because you need your knees and pushing it can really result in bad injury. As far as the rest of the 6 injuries they include Achilles Tendinitis, Hamstring issues, Plantar Fasciitis, Shin splints, Lliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS), and Stress Fractures.

finger licking
I chose the commercial about Doritos because I laughed a lot when I first saw it. Now that I look back and watch it’s really not that funny to me, but I do think that Doritos commercials have the best sense of humor. I know there are so many Doritos ads but I chose the one called “Finger Licking” because it’s half gross and half intelligent. I believe the audience is everyone who loves Doritos and can’t get enough of them. The whole commercial is basically selling the idea that the chips are so good it takes you licking every crumb and bit of cheese off your hands and even someone else’s. I personally love Doritos so I understand why the guy in the video is licking some other guys finger and then ripping off some other guys pants to get the last of it. I mean I would never go to that extreme, but I understand why they would choose to do something like that to get there point across to the viewers. I would personally love to meet the director of these commercials because I am sure he or she has some wicked personality I would love to surround myself with. I think that directors think the more out there and off the chart there ad is the more chance they have that people are going to remember them and the product. I mean if I were a director I would totally be selling this crazy product and go to extremes to have sweet advertisement.

Smoking go away
I have been around smoking all my life and every time I am around someone who lights up and I smell the smoke it’s almost instantly that I have memories about people in my life who smoke. For most of my life I my parents have smoked and for most of my life it has saddened me that it may take their life some day. However I think that people smoke because of stress, curiosity, or just plain boredom. I am guilty of trying it out of curiosity and I am also guilty of hating it. Some people say you can get addicted after the first one and I am pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to get addicted after thirty. My father recently quit smoking, but then got addicted to cigars. He did read a book though this past month and has quit cigars as well. I think it takes a lot to give up an addiction that has been a part of your life for the past thirty years. It’s almost like the person will have to find something else to do to fill the time or start saving money for some exotic vacation they have wanted to go on. My mother on the other hand and quit and started more than I can count. I am actually worried about her these days. She gets bronchitis a lot and smokes her way through it. I wish it was something that she could just stop for her health sake, but it seems to have a hold on her. It breaks my heart that people die from cigarettes and that people pay for their death in a sense. I realize everyone is different and smoking doesn’t make anyone a bad person, but I can only hope that eventually people will never start.

cancer vaccine
In this article I felt like the vaccine was something that could actually be really helpful for the women of today. It’s really sad to me that 4,000 deaths happen each year due to HPV. As far as the concerns this vaccine brings such as it promotes women to have unprotected sex because they know they have a greater chance of not getting HPV. I believe that the different congregations that are trying to promote abstinence over the vaccine have a great point. However not everyone in the world is going to follow that and the chances of everyone waiting for the right person or everyone just using protection is very slim. I don’t think that just because someone is religious doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get the vaccine even if they are sticking with abstinence. Vaccines are created to help people and even if there not having sex they would still feel safer with the vaccine. That’s like saying you can’t have the flu shot because you have never had the flu. People get the flu shot during flu season whether or not they have ever had it because they want to feel like their chances are a lot slimmer so they don’t have to worry about it. I don’t agree that the vaccine sends the wrong message either. If the vaccine is something that makes someone feel safer about their immune system then they should be able to freely get one without judgment. Unfortunately not everyone is going to agree on one thing because we all have different opinions. That’s what makes this world go round.
