say no to soda

What I wanted to write about for my last paper was soda and basically why we shouldn’t drink it. I think that soda is one of the most addictive things out there and people rely on it to get them going and to keep them going throughout the day. In fact those who are consuming one regular soda a day are taking in about 91,000 calories a year which equals about 300 Big Macs or 182 large fries. I am not okay with eating the equivalent of that many Big Macs that goes straight to the behind. The average American drinks 54 gallons of soda a year and that is a huge amount if you think about it. Not to mention that soda has lots of acid in it that can tear up our stomachs and start to break down our teeth enamel. I want my audience to be just people in general or those who struggle with giving soda up. However I think that people know soda is bad for them they just don’t really know how bad it can affect you over time. I don’t want to write the paper and just say don’t drink soda because it’s bad for you but I want to give good solid facts that will really help my readers think about what soda is doing to their bodies and maybe it is time to give it up. I might even decide to make my audience more towards parents and why they shouldn’t let their kids have soda because it affects them even more than adults because of all the sugar and caffeine. Also because kids are growing constantly and need to learn how to take care of their teeth it would be good for them to stay away from soda.

  1. Good brainstorming here, Jess, and especially in the area of audience.

Are you aware of the whole idea of soda tax? If not, ask me about it. I could point you to some research that could give you some more perspective on the politics of the issue.

I'm glad I'm not a soda junkie (although every now and again I do enjoy a fountain diet Pepsi!)
